Kalyan Joshi is from the Joshi family of Bhilwara, the traditional artists to practice this form. He started working with his father and guru, Shree Lal Joshi (Padma Shri Awardee) from childhood at the age of eight years. With his father he established Chitrashala, a training institute for reviving and maintaining this vibrant tradition. He has experimented Phad Painting with new stories, contemporary style and line drawing. He created picture montages with expert of narrative poetry and he has done experiments with character animation. He is founder of “ANKAN Kala Sansthan”, which served thousands of children with phad paintings. During 15 years of span of ANKAN, he even organized 30 exhibitions in Bhilwara. He has won various awards like: National Award by Govt. of India, 2010; National Merit Award by Govt. of India, 2006 and Gauri Shankar Mehta Award, Maru Parampara, 2008 These are some of his artworks displayed in our gallery.
