Madhubani paintings were traditionally painted on freshly plastered mud walls of huts by the women of the community. They mostly depict our association with nature, or the deities from the epics. Very little area is left blank on the surface and the gaps are filled with motifs of flowers and leaves.
Madhubani paintings were traditionally painted on freshly plastered mud walls of huts by the women of the community. They mostly depict our association with nature, or the deities from the epics. Very little area is left blank on the surface and the gaps are filled with motifs of flowers and leaves. Madhubani has five distinctive styles: Bharni, Katchni, Tantrik, Godna and Kohbar. Natural colors were used formerly but these days they are painted using poster and acrylic colors. The tradition is usually passed on from generation to generation in the families of the mithila region.
